Wiimba - Wiimote and Roomba Robot
June 16th, 2008
Here is a inspirational hack. Take two items that were not meant for hacking and make them interface together. A Wiimote and a Roomba make for an interesting robot! Video after the jump.
“This is my first roomba hacking.
I can say it is a kind of warning for the society taken over by robots. It is […]

Wii Homebrew Channel
May 27th, 2008
The Wii Homebrew Channel is moving full speed ahead. Looks like we have lots of great things coming in the near future.
“The Homebrew Channel is a channel for launching Wii homebrew applications without the need to run the Twilight Hack first. It will list apps stored and organised on an SD card in a nice […]

No official pricing info was included in the voluminous news release, but the Band Kit for Guitar Hero World Tour has been priced on Gamestop, which is (of course) also accepting pre-orders.
The PS3, Wii and 360 bundles will set you back $189.99. The PS2 bundle is 10 bones less, $179.99. Presumably these all include the game, guitar, drums and a mike. Gamestop just put the info up on its website, and Gaming Bits caught the scoop, noting that the bundle is $20 more than the Rock Band Special Edition bundle.
If you want to buy just the guitar and the game, you can get those for $99.99 and $59.99/$49.99 respectively. The release date is Oct. 27, 2008.

The Wii may not be great for high-resolution graphics, but it’s perfect for black and white, or so said Madworld dev Takanori Ishikawa during an interview with MTV’s Stephen Totilo last week.
“For consoles like the 360 and PlayStation 3 the level of high-quality graphics is so extreme. I wanted things to be simpler than that.” He said he had been told that he needed to make a Wii game. “We thought about ‘What can we do that’s new on the Wii?’ And we came out the white and black graphics.”
Ishikawa goes on to talk about where he came up with the game’s signature signpost-through-face move, what sort of music will be the backdrop to all of that over the top killing and his take on violence.
Speaking with the Platinum Games guys last week during their day of announcements, I asked them what Nintendo and the ESRB thought of the […]

G4, Gamespy, Gamestats Reporting Imaginary VC Soul Blazer
May 23rd, 2008
Back on May 12th, Nintendo decided to skip their weekly Virtual Console update in order to focus on the release of WiiWare. Having posted just about every VC Update since the service began, I decided to post one anyway, asking our readers what games would make up their ideal update. My choices were Soul Blazer for the Super Nintendo and Tiny Toon Adventures for the NES.
Apparently I possess some sort of bizarre, mutant powers of suggestion, because somewhere between there and here, several websites began reporting the two titles as actual updates. I’m not talking tiny little sites like Wii60 either. IGN sites Gamespy and Gamestats ran with it…heck, G4 even went to the trouble of making a video about the imaginary update, which I am guess won’t be up for too much longer, so enjoy while you can.
I don’t suppose it counts as plagiarism […]

Nintendo Wii Not Exactly Setting Korea On Fire
May 23rd, 2008
America? America loves the Nintendo Wii. Europe? Ditto. And Japan? Man, Japan is bonkers for the Wii. What about Korea? The country finally has an official Nintendo of Korea branch after years of going through shady third party distributors. According to Korean site GameShot.net, the Wii’s first month performance there is only 35,000 units sold out of the 50,000 units released by Nintendo. For game software, Wii Sports sold 30,000 copies, while Swing Golf Pangya and Jack & Wiki each sold about 8,000 copies. FIFA sold 2,000 copies. It seems Korean gamers have better things to do than play Wii Sports — things like waiting for StarCraft II.

Here’s The Beer Pong Trailer
May 22nd, 2008
When you’ve had your fill of virtual binging with Major League Eating, why not virtually purge with a round of Beer Pong? Thanks to the power of WiiWare and Frat Party Games, the thrill of tossing ping pong balls with a femme wrist snap at Solo cups can be experienced without the threat of alcohol poisoning. To sum up, Beer Pong, Frat Party Games, WiiWare and no, this isn’t something you’re going to wake up from.

FINALLY, Beer Pong Comes To WiiWare
May 22nd, 2008
Just saw a press release. For Beer Pong. On WiiWare. It’s real. Seems JV Games have determined that it’s “a game niche yet to be filled”, and that “the Wii is the perfect system to replicate the game”. There’ll be four-player multiplayer, including three-player “Speed Pong”, and there’ll be no buttons, you just swing with the Wii Remote. Best of all, Beer Pong is but the first in a series of games to be released by JV under the “Frat Party Games” label, meaning Frat Party Games: Stomach Pump and Frat Party Games: Date Rape shouldn’t be too far behind.
US, May 21, 2008 - JV Games Inc. is pleased to announce Frat Party Games - Beer Pong. Beer Pong, a game born on a college campus in the early 80s, has grown from a college drinking game to a competitive sport in bars across the country. In mid […]

Some Professor Says Baloney To Wii Fit
May 21st, 2008
Congratulations, Dr. Judith S. Stern, professor of Nutrition and Internal Medicine at the University of California! You’re the first (though definitely not the last) science-type to come out publicly and call out Wii Fit. And not just call it out: call it baloney.
My understanding is that Nintendo is saying that if you track BMI, and by using this program, that you’ll improve your BMI, or lower your BMI. I say baloney to that. In fact, I’m sure you’ll see very little change in BMI. It’s not just BMI you want to look at, but how fat you are.
When you are physically fit, you tend to replace fat with muscle, and your BMI probably won’t change…I really think it’s false and misleading.
Like I said, this is probably the first of many. Lucky for Judith she used “baloney”, because the next scientist’s going to have to use “devon”, or “ham”, […]
