Hopefully you haven’t been putting off buying a DVD player based on the hope of getting a Wii that plays them. If you have been, it maybe time to rethink your plan as it looks like there won’t be a DVD playing Wii in the near future.
Nintendo says that it has no plans to release such a Wii this year, though it still does plan to release it. Why the Wii didn’t play DVDs from the start is beyond me, but I think most people in the market for a Wii probably have a DVD player by now anyway.
The company appears to be more worried about trying to meet demand for Wiis for the holiday season than working on any changes to the current hardware.
Can’t say I blame ‘em for that.
